Superhero Cookies
These colorful Superhero Cookies are soft, buttery sugar cookies decorated with royal icing in bright red, blue, yellow, black, green, and white. They are perfect for superhero birthday parties, school celebrations, holiday treats, or fun baking projects with kids.

Ingredients
For the Cookies
- 1 cup unsalted butter softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
For the Royal Icing
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 3 tablespoons meringue powder
- 6 tablespoons water
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Red food coloring
- Super Black food coloring
- Egg Yellow food coloring
- Royal Blue food coloring
- Bright White food coloring
Instructions
- In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and creamy.
- Add the egg and vanilla extract and mix until fully combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture and mix until a soft cookie dough forms.
- Wrap the dough and refrigerate for about 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Roll the chilled dough to about 1/4-inch thickness on a lightly floured surface.
- Cut the dough into small circles or use a superhero-shaped cookie cutter.
- Transfer the cookies to the prepared baking sheets.
- Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
- Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Make the royal icing by mixing the powdered sugar and meringue powder in a large bowl.
- Gradually add the water and vanilla extract and beat until the icing is smooth, thick, and glossy.
- Divide the royal icing into separate bowls and tint each portion with red, black, yellow, blue, or white food coloring.
- Transfer the colored icing into disposable decorating bags fitted with size 2 or size 3 decorating tips.
- Pipe an outline around each cooled cookie using the desired icing color.
- Fill the outlined area with royal icing and gently spread it toward the edges with a toothpick or scribe tool.
- Allow the base icing to set before adding the superhero details.
- Pipe superhero-inspired designs such as shields, stars, webs, masks, bat symbols, or Superman-style emblems.
- Let the decorated cookies dry completely, preferably overnight, before stacking or packaging.
