Sweet Filled Sourdough Buns
Soft, fluffy, and lightly tangy, these sweet filled sourdough buns are made with an active starter and enriched dough. They bake up golden on the outside and pillowy inside, with delicious fillings like jam, chocolate, or cream cheese. Perfect for breakfast, snacks, or dessert.

Ingredients
- 500 g all-purpose flour
- 100 g active sourdough starter
- 250 ml warm milk
- 80 g granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 60 g unsalted butter softened
- 1 teaspoon salt
Fillings choose one or mix:
- Fruit jam strawberry or apricot
- Chocolate spread
- Custard cream
- Sweetened cream cheese
- Caramel sauce
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix the sourdough starter, warm milk, sugar, and egg until well combined.
- Add the flour and salt gradually, mixing until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough for about 5 minutes, then add the softened butter and continue kneading for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size.
- Once risen, divide the dough into 12 equal portions.
- Flatten each portion into a small circle using your hands.
- Place about 1 tablespoon of your chosen filling in the center.
- Fold the edges over the filling and pinch to seal, forming a ball.
- Arrange the filled dough balls in a greased baking dish close together.
- Cover and let them rise again until puffy and slightly doubled.
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown on top.
- Remove from the oven and brush with melted butter for a soft finish.
- Let cool slightly before serving.
